 Increased Computer Donation Pipeline to Fulfill Student Laptop Need within MontclairNov 11, 2017 – Laptop Upcycle, a local not-for-profit initiative that provides laptops to low income students without computer home access, announced a partnership with New Jersey-based Electronic Access Foundation (EAF). This alliance will allow the organizations to share resources and infrastructure to speed the receipt and delivery of recycled technology to those in need. Specifically, the Electronic Access Foundation has a well-established network of donors and suppliers that will open up new donation opportunities for the Laptop Upcycle team. Laptop Upcycle will provide a physical site for EAF to support the refurbishing process and storage of donated equipment. Laptop Upcycle will also benefit shared knowledge or years of experience that EAF has gained in the technology refurb market. Greg Campbell, EAF volunteer, is excited about the synergy between the organizations, “Our focus is securing computers, laptops and desktop units, that are under five years old. Most donations come from corporations, schools and small businesses that upgrade or refresh their technology on a calendared schedule. Computers that are rotated out of corporate use are still viable enough to operate today’s programs and perfect for our target audience: students, veterans, seniors and other at-risk populations. We are pleased to share space and resources with Laptop Upcycle to increase our efficiency, reduce landfill waste and, of course, remove the equipment from the business location for them." Mark Zbucki, volunteer and Laptop Upcycle Technical Director, assures donors that their hardware donations are secure. “We are certified to Department of Defense (DOD) standards to wipe the hard drive of all data, install a no-cost, virtually virus-resistant LINUX UBUNTU or cloud-ready operating system (hardware dependent) and have each laptop school-ready for each qualified student. Along with assurance of data privacy, companies and individuals that donate computers to either Laptop Upcycle or EAF are eligible for a fair market value tax deduction.” While Laptop Upcycle distributes PC Laptops, Macs and Chromebooks so that students have maximum portability and minimal storage issues, Electronic Access accepts donations of all types of computers and cell phones to serve a wider population and organizations throughout the New York-New Jersey region.
